GERMAN PORCELAIN BEER STEIN WITH LITHOPANE
This is a nice old porcelain stein from Germany.
It was made to honor the profession of the Baker
.
It has pastel colored decoration featuring a deer and a lion holding a large pretzel topped by a crown.
It says in German "Long live the noble craft of the baker"
It also says " The world should sooner be ruined than a baker should die of thirst" I guess that is where the beer stein comes in.
It says in German "In memory of Frankfurt 1898"
:Farewell to Home- This is how bakers live in Frankfurt"
The name Johann Schmid is written at the top.
When the bottom is help up to the light a lithopone scene pressed into the bottom can be viewed.
The stein measures 9" tall X 4" diameter.
