Vintage Mexican Gourd Box
Description and Item Information
Up for sale is this piece of vintage Mexican folk art. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This multicolored box was made from a gourd which was lacquered, carved, and painted with various animals and patterns. The decoration is detailed. There is a small handle attached to the lid. It is approximately 5 7/8 inches tall, 6 1/4 inches long, and 6 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs 7.4 ounces. This would be a neat addition to a collection of Mexican lacquerware.
Identification
This unmarked item is a Mexican gourd box, likely from Olinala, Guerrero, Mexico. The exact age of this vintage piece is not known.
Condition
The box displays well overall, but it is not in perfect condition. There is a crack near the rim, as shown in Photo 4. The lid's handle has chips and flakes to the lacquer. There are various wear areas, scratches, imperfections, and small flakes elsewhere. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.

1. Payments
Taxes may be applicable. The correct shipping address must be included with payment. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made.
2. Shipping
Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not necessarily included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller usually ships on Mondays and Thursdays. The merchandise will normally be shipped on the seller's next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier.
Shipping includes delivery to a physical address via a method of the seller's choice. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping costs may be required. At the seller's discretion, a signature may be required for delivery.
Shipping quotes must be requested prior to all international bidding or buying. For international shipping, there may be parcel size restrictions or prohibitions on certain classes of merchandise. Customs forms will not be falsified.
