West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this original California 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Sedan in its beautiful original 'Classic Cream' (Color code 925) factory color paint and with an virtually flawless condition original 'Neptune Green' specification (Trim code 822) Nylon & vinyl interior with color keyed flooring, dual sun visors, 2 spoke steering wheel, electric clock, with its original 283 'Turbo-Fire' V8 engine matched to a 'Powerglide' 2 speed automatic transmission, stainless steel trim on windshield, side windows & rear windows, stainless steel front fender trim, and with added factory options of the AM radio.
Originally from California, this Bel Air was recently stored in Wyoming. Finished in its original trim plate codes #925A Classic Cream and #822 Neptune Green. Recently, the Bel Air was professionally painted, wet-sanded and buffed. The engine was pulled, resealed and painted. The Bel Air features new tires, new bumpers and new padded dash. Much of the interior is original and the Bel Air reportedly has 60,689 actual miles. From the renown Bryan Frank Collection.
The full-size Chevrolet Bel Air was produced from 1950 through 1975, initially as a two-door hardtop from 1950 to 1952. In 1953, the 'Bel Air' went from a body style designation to a premium level of trip applied to several body styles. In 1955, it received all-new styling, and described by GM's advertising as the 'Hot One.' This generation of styling continued through 1957, and for 1958, they became lower, longer, and heavier wearing a redesigned look. In the front was a broad grille and quad headlights; at the back was a fan-shaped alcove on both side panels, housing dual taillights. Attractive styling throughout the Chevrolet line, along with a vast list of standard equipment and potent powerplants earned Chevrolet the number one position in united States automotive sales.
One of the USA's most recognized classic cars ever, the Bel Air range was expanded in 1953 to sedans and a very desirable convertible and by 1954, a station wagon, the Nomad was added to the range of models. By 1955 a comprehensive restyling arrived at its definitive classic shape and the Bel Air was the flagship model of the entire Chevrolet division.
In 1959 Chevy Bel Air models were given a new design featuring unique cat's-eye tail lights, new sheet metal, and headlights placed low to the ground. It continued to use the 'X'-frame from 1958 but was strengthened and enlarged to support the weight and size of the new body. The 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air had a length of 210.9 inches and stood 54 inches tall (on the coupes). This was an increase of 1.8 inches in length and a decrease of over 3 inches in height. Body styles included a 2- and 4-door sedan, hardtop Sport Sedan, a six-passenger Parkwood station wagon, and a nine-passenger Kingswood station wagon.
The Bel Air was now the middle range vehicle, placed just below the top-of-the-line trim Impala. The base small-block V8 engine was an overhead-valve unit that displaced 283 CID and offered 185 horsepower. Transmission options included a 3- and 4-speed manual, or a 2-speed Powerglide automatic. Standard equipment included electric wipers, front and rear foam cushions, Deluxe steering wheel, and an oil bath cleaner for the V8 engines.
The fourth-generation of Bel Air styling introduced in 1959, with the most striking feature being the flat, wing-shaped tailfins. Styling changes for 1960 were mild, with a return of the double cone tail lights of 1958 replacing the 1959's 'cat's eyes' of 1959, and the same engine lineup as in 1958. The fuel injection option was no longer available. In 1961, the fifth generation of styling was introduced and would continue through 1964.
There's no better example of GM's styling and engineering prowess in the late fifties than the 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air - drive one like this particular example and you will see why - its hard to believe that this car was built over 62 years ago! 'Zippy new power' included a larger displacement 283 CID V8 engine in 6 different variations of a 2 or 4 barrels carburretor, dual 4 barrels available with either hydraulic or solid valve lifters and for the first time ever, a fuel injected version.
This particular example was recently acquired from a renown collection which had itself reportedly completed the restoration on an obviously always cherished 'Garage Queen' with reportedly only 60,689 original miles. The car boasts its all original specifications of 'Classic Cream' color paint matched to a 'Neptune Green' interior.
The 283 V8 engine is extremely strong and powerful and sounds absolutely magnificent and this particular car drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be believed - does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day car a run for it's money! The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the car is an absolute pleasure to drive!
The car boasts its original spare wheel and jack in the truck and from looking at the photographs you will see that you could literally eat your lunch off either the original engine or trunk compartments - the car is in quite stunning recently restored condition, as good if not better than the day it left the showroom floor in 1959!
